I've always thought of Lonely Planet as the best guide for low-maintenance and adventurous travel - so I was not happy to read that Lonely Planet lists one of the highlights of a visit to Nairobi, Kenya, as "the smug feeling of surviving a stay here!"

After lonely planet recommended a hostel in Paris with a gaping hole in the floor, outhouse bathroom, and lax security, I decided they may no longer be the best low-budget, all-around guide, despite their lovely name. However, they were very receptive when I wrote to tell them that they might want to reconsider recommending said hostel.
