The New York Times has these ads running around town right now. I know people who find the NYT motto "All the news that's fit to print" unbearably arrogant, but as a mission statement I think it's excellent. It's ambitious and bold and...oh yeah...it's about their desire to cover the news.
These ads, on the other hand, are just narcissism. As though, for some reason, the New York Times wants to position itself as the Paris Hilton of news organizations.

And the formatting of them drives me batty. I get all annoyed trying to figure out the various emphasis's and cadences. I'm glad I'm not the only one who objects to these ads.
I surprised that the Times feels the need to advertise at all.
@Jack - The Times is dying just as all newspapers are dying. They're going to start charging for online content, something like you can read, say, 3-4 articles per day for free and then you pay to read others. They're working on how to set it up so they do it right the first time.
@Erin - When I first saw these ads I really thought they were ads for something else, and that they were sarcastic. I read the Times almost every day, but this campaign just does not work for me at all.
